Hands-On History: An Interactive Survey of America History

From Colonization to World War II (ages 8 – 11)

In this class, students will become familiar with some of the transitional moments in American history through a variety of teaching methods.  Using the Strawbery Banke neighborhood as a backdrop, each class will begin with a multimedia Power-point introducing a particular era and providing context for main events.  Students will then engage in games, crafts and hands-on projects with simple materials most families have on hand.  A list of necessary materials will be provided at least one week in advance.  Included with the call each week is access to a private website linking families to other projects, additional readings and a variety of resources that will further the students’ understanding of American history.  This class is a great introduction to United States history in a fun and engaging way.

DATES: Tuesdays, September 15 – October 6 (4 weeks)

TIME: 9:00 – 10:00AM (classes will be 45-60min.)

Pondering the Past: A Survey of American History
