Strawbery Banke Museum is Offering Onsite and Virtual Programming!


ONSITE PROGRAMS

Family Program Sept. 30 – Oct. 21, 2021

Art in Colonial America – Before there were machines and factories, the necessities of life were handmade by skilled artisans who spent years developing their crafts.  Step into the shoes of a colonial apprentice to discover how everyday objects were made.  Weave textiles on a loom, learn woodworking from the cooper, create a basket and make a leather journal.  At the end of every class, families will take home a bounty of their own creations.

Family Program May 5 – 26, 2022

1700s: A Day in the Life – Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in the past? Now you can find out. Through a variety of games, activities and house explorations, families will discover how people got the things they needed, what they did for fun, how they cooked their food and ways that people tried to stay healthy. Bring the whole family and see how much fun the past can be!

DETAILS: Classes take place Thursdays from 10:00 – 12:00. All Ages are welcome, but activities are developed with children 8 – 11 in mind.

COST: $25 per day for the whole family or $75 for all four sessions. SBM Family Members receive 20% off. FREE with Homeschool Program Subscription

COVID Guidelines: Participants will be asked to follow the current Strawbery Banke Museum Covid-19 Precautions including masking indoors. Programs will take place outside but could be moved indoors in case of inclement weather.


History at Home ~ Virtual Classes

November – Historical Fiction Writing

Learn the art of creative writing through the lens of history. Working with a professional author, students will hone their writing skills, use real historical primary and secondary sources and develop their imaginations. At the end of the month students will have a completed piece of writing or the first chapter of a book they can continue writing.

  • November 21 – 23 (Thanksgiving Week): Individual Feedback Sessions

January – History Science Fusion

What do history and science have in common? Asking questions and using evidence to get the answer! Participants will learn the surprising history of some famous and fun inventions and then use those inventions to develop experiments that they can really try.

Imagining the Past – March

Explore three centuries of history using imagination and fantasy! Each class begins with a brief introduction to the historical time period followed by an interactive conversation with one of Strawbery Banke’s professional roleplayers. Finally, participants will be taught some period crafts that they can do on their own.

HOMESCHOOL PROGRAM SUBSCRIPTION


Pay just once and receive access to all SBM homeschool programs from September – May. A subscription can save you up to $250 per child!

  • Cost: One child = $100, Two children = $175, More than 2 children = $250 (SBM Family Members receive a 20% discount on the subscription)
  • Benefits: Free registration for any programs on the homeschool page (virtual or onsite) & one free family pass for self-guided tours (Sept – Oct 17, 2021 & May – August 2022)
  • Other Details: Subscribers will still need to register for programs in advance. Registration is first-come, first-served. However if any program fills up within 2 weeks of the program date, the same program (different date and different time) will be added to accommodate all subscribers that register at least 14 days in advance .
